What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is the evidence-based process of using music interventions to improve aspects of a person’s health, be it physical, cognitive, or emotional. Within this process, the therapist and client work together in a therapeutic relationship to accomplish individualized goals and inspire this change towards a healthier way of being. Music therapy is practiced by a credentialed professional. These professionals must have completed an approved music therapy university program and internship.
Music therapy uses music interventions to address the following domains:
Cognitive | Communication | Emotional | Motor | Social
Our Services
Music Therapy Assessment
Music therapy assessments are typically around 2 hours in length and help to determine possible goal areas for the client. After an individual is determined to be a good candidate for music therapy through the assessment, regularly occurring music therapy sessions are scheduled.
Music Lessons
It has been proven that learning to play an instrument can be beneficial. It can help strengthen cognitive, emotional, social, and motor skills. We provide music lessons with and without instructional or physical adaptations to make it possible for everyone to learn to play an instrument.
Individual Music Therapy Sessions
Individual music therapy sessions are one-on-one sessions scheduled directly between the client and the music therapist. The therapist employees music therapy interventions to address quantifiable goals with the client. The data from sessions are tracked to measure client progress throughout sessions.
