Alphabet Soup

Happy fall/holiday season!

We’ve come to the time of year filled with cooking of delicious, cozy foods. And the most delicious fall-favorite? Soups! For those “chilli” autumn days, check out this month’s music game, Alphabet Soup! It combines the theme of cozy cooking and note knowledge into a big ol’ pot of fun.

What’s Included:

  • 24 cards

  • 8 logo cards

Set Up:

  • Print out pdf (print 3 pages of logo cards so you have enough backs of cards) and cut out cards

  • Place one playing card and one logo card back to back

  • Laminate cards

  • Grab a timer, a pot or bowl, and let’s get “cooking!”

How it Works:

Place the deck of cards and pot/bowl (soup container) in the center. Each card has a note in either treble or bass clef. Start the timer (length based on your student’s level) and see how many notes your student can guess correctly. For each card guessed correctly, place it in the soup container.

The objective of the game is to guess as many cards correctly as you can. The fun of the game  is to see what kind of soup your student made. Each card has a different soup ingredient on it (broccoli, chicken, kidney beans, etc.). When the timer goes off, look inside your container to see what kind of soup the ingredients you combined created!

Expansion Ideas:

Do this with two soup containers; one for your student and one for you. Take turns guessing. This way, your student has to check your answers, and you can compare yummy soups at the end!
